Dag Hammarskjold adalah sekretaris jenderal Persatuan Bangsa Bangsa 10 April 1953 hingga 18 September 1961. Beliau meninggal dalam sebuah kecelakaan pesawat udara pada saat melakukan misi perdamaian ke Kongo pada tanggal 17 September 1961.
Oleh PBB namanya diabadikan sebagai nama program beasiswa jurnalistik bagi negara-negara ketiga yang diselenggarakan sekali dalam setahun. Selain mendapatkan beasiswa, jurnalis yang terpilih akan mendapat kesempatan untuk meliput sidang umum PBB ke 63.
The Dag Hammarskjold Scholarship Fund for Journalists is now accepting applications from professional journalists from developing countries for its 2008 Fellowship Program. The application deadline is April 25.
The Fellowships are available to radio, television, print and web journalists, age 25 to 35, from developing countries who are interested in traveling to New York to report on international affairs during the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Fellowships will begin in mid-September and extend to late November and will include the cost of travel and accommodations in New York , as well as a per diem allowance. The Fellowship Program is open to journalists who are native to a developing country in Africa, Asia, South America or the Caribbean , and are currently working full-time for a bonafide media organization in a developing nation. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in and commitment to international affairs and to conveying a better understanding of the UN to their readers and audiences. Selections of the
